Artimus Taylor was born on January 22, 1941, to the late Irene Taylor Barnes and Robert Barnes, Sr., in Elm City, North Carolina. He went Home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2023. Artimus was also known as “daddy” by his wife; Teecake or Temus by his siblings; Mr. Tee or Triple Tee by his friends; and granddad or poppie by his children. Artimus graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in Elm City, North Carolina. He served in the United States Army from December 9, 1963 through December 8, 1965, and later came to Washington, DC where he worked for the Wonder Bread Company. He later worked for the Architect of the Capital from 1986 through 2002 until he retired. Artimus was a die-hard Washington Redskins / Commanders fan! Artimus met Joyce Meadows 31 years ago, they were united in holy matrimony on March 24, 2009. and they had two children together, Artimus (Brandon Byrd) and Nasha. Artimus is survived by his wife, Joyce Meadows Taylor; two daughters Johanna and Nasha; four sons Artimus (Brandon Byrd), Eric (Cianti), Brandon (Lindsey), and Marquell; 14 grandchildren, Meadow, Azure, Connor, Corrine, Zoe, Briell, Jalani, Taylor, Dymond, Raven, Jaheim, Morgan, Meagan, and Aurora; three great grandchildren, Deyon, Onest, and Saint; four siblings, Robert Barnes, Mattie (Louis) Barnes, Roberta Irene Barnes, and Verlene Barnes; two sisters-in-love, Marian and Barbara; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, siblings Annie, Alton, and Larry; and son Artis.
