Helen Estelle Amore peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on January 13, 2021. Born to William and Florence Hughes, on November 21, 1942, in Washington, DC, Helen was the third of six children.
Helen was educated in the Washington, DC Public School System. A beautiful lady with a golden smile, ultimately led to her meeting and marrying Patrick Amore. From that union, Helen gained a bonus daughter, Paulette, whom she helped to raise and instill many great qualities.
Helen was a smart and savvy lady. She believed in structure, discipline, responsibility and most of all, holding on to a dollar! Helen loved teaching about being financially sound to the many young people she came across. Her intelligence and dedication led her to a long and successful career at the federal General Services Administration, where she worked for almost three decades and retired from.
Helen enjoyed many hobbies while in retirement. She enjoyed traveling, dining out (especially at new restaurants), laughing and catching up with loved-ones. One of Helen’s proudest accomplishments was being a grandmother. In addition to her grandchildren, Helen was a surrogate mother to several (nieces, nephews, god-children and others).
Helen sought the Lord and regularly attended service at Heaven on Earth Worship Ministries, where she was installed as the Mother of the Church under the leadership of her daughter and son in-law and became affectionately known as “Mom Helen”. Mom Helen was adored by the members and the adoration was reciprocated. She often shared her wisdom as she fellowshipped after service. They loved seeing her quiet step and wide smile enter the building.
On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Helen departed this life while in her home, just as quiet as her stride. Although she will be dearly missed by many, she left an indelible mark on this world.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, William and Florence Hughes, siblings: Shirley Poole; Barbara Kemp and William Augustus Hughes Jr., and best friends: Lisa Poole and Theresa Williams. Left to forever cherish her memory are her daughters: Paulette Powell, (Dennis) and Denita Adams; grandchildren: Grace, Rachel and Emmanuel; siblings: Wanda Hughes Page and Gerald Wendell Hughes (Joyce); god-children: Onyango Williams (Ariella) and Layla Brooks; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many special friends.
