Hospital in Washington DC. James is preceded in death by his parents Ann M. King and John I.
King.
James graduated from Anacostia High School in 1961, where he was a proud athlete and
lettered in track and field and football. After graduation James worked at the US Government
Printing Office to help support his beloved grandmother Leontine Couzinet Moorehead. He
attended DC Teachers College part time from 1963 until he was drafted into the US Marine
Corps in March of 1966.
James served in the US Marine Corps in March 1966. He traveled to several foreign locations.
He was honorably discharged in March of 1968 as a highly decorated Corporal from the
Vietnam War.
On June 23, 1968 James married the love of his life Geraldine Hudley. To this union was born a
precious daughter Kimberly Monique in 1979.
James earned a Bachelor of Science degree on December 23, 1972 from DC Teachers
College. From 1973 to 1976 James worked for the DC Fire Department (Engine 3) and DC
Public Schools. From 1976 to 1998, James worked as a DC Tax Auditor at the DC Department
of Finance & Revenue.
On November 12, 1998, James retired after 35 years of Federal & District of Columbia
government service.
James was a faithful Washington Redskins Football fan and loved his “Marine Corps” until the
end. In 1995 James joined Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, MD with his daughter.
He had a unique ability to put all who encountered him at ease and was truly well liked and
highly respected by those who came in contact with him. He was a quiet, kind gentleman.
James led an interesting life. He was a gentle person but strong in his own way. After falling and
injuring his head in a freak accident in March he struggled for five months in three hospitals but
never regained his full consciousness. He transitioned on September 1st, just 10 days before
his 78th birthday. He fought a good fight.
James leaves to cherish the memory, his devoted wife Geraldine Hudley King; loving daughter
Kimberly M.; brother; Paul W. King (Rosilyn); half-siblings Paula L. Wheatley and Rosie K.
Hamilton and Timothy L. Weldon; loving nieces and nephews Yvette (Kenneth), Paul (Bridget),
Lawrence, Donald (Deni), Nikole, Richelle and a host of special great nieces and nephews,
cousins, relatives and friends.
