Donald B. Bruck, age 82, of Bedford, MA died on September 16, 2018 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1935 in New York, NY to Herman & Lottie (Remis) Bruck and married Joan (Rosenthal) of Brookline, MA.
Don had a thirst for knowledge; he went to Brooklyn Technical High School, studied Electrical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (’56), Electronic Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (’58), MS Physics at Northeastern University (’61) while he was serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force (’58 –’62), and earned an MBA at Harvard University (’64). A lifelong entrepreneur, Don co-founded and sold various technology companies, including Hybrid Systems, Disc Technologies Corporation, and Lexis Industries.
Over the years, Don worked as a part-time adjunct-faculty member of Northeastern University Graduate School of Business Administration, guest lectured at Harvard Business School, the Smaller Business Association of New England, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Northeastern University, and Technion University in Haifa Israel. For nearly 20 years, Don was a consultant to the U.S. Department of Commerce on high-tech export control regulations.
Don spent decades volunteering as Treasurer of the Lassor and Fanny Agoos Charity Fund and served on the Board of Directors for Emerson Hospital, Concord Academy, and several small businesses.
At the age of 60 he earned a law degree (MSL ’95) so that he could advocate for the small business owner. He read at least two newspapers every day, loved keeping up with politics and world news, and never shied away from a good, heated debate.
A loving father, Don, together with Joan, instilled a love of travel in his children as they journeyed together to remote destinations around the world from Australia to Zimbabwe and Bhutan to Papua New Guinea. His wicked sense of humor, loyalty to loved ones, and companionship will be sorely missed.
Don is survived by his wife Joan; daughter Lauren Bruck Simon & her husband Jon Simon of Newton: grandchildren Lila and Orly; his son Michael Bruck of Jackson, WY; sister Marion Gitlin of Boynton Beach FL and a community of extended family and friends.
