Harold W. Kallin, 86, died on May 15, 2013 after a period of declining health. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Ruth (Miller) Kallin, of Framingham. He was the son of the late Ralph and Ida Kallin. Mr. Kallin was born and raised in Springfield, MA, and resided in Framingham for 47 years. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering and worked for the Massachusetts Department of Public Works (now MassDOT) for 40 years. He held the position of deputy chief when he retired in 1992. Mr. Kallin served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army 7th Infantry Regiment in Central Europe during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Bruce Kallin and his wife Marian of Milford, Gary Kallin of Holliston, Scott Kallin and his wife Bridget of Hudson, and Michele Kallin of Framingham. He also leaves his grandchildren, Michael Kallin, Jeffrey Kallin and his wife Jill, Hilary Kallin, Lisa Kallin, Randa Kallin, Daniel Kallin, and Jennifer Kallin; his sister, Dorothy Stopa, of Springfield; his brother-in-law, Jerry Miller and his wife Sylvia of Stoughton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Pinkof and Frieda Alpert. Mr. Kallin was an active participant of the Saturday morning breakfast minyan at Temple Beth Sholom in Framingham for nearly 40 years. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 1:00pm at the Framingham-Natick Jewish Cemetery, 60 Fairview Ave., Natick. Memorial observance will be at the home of Michele Kallin immediately following the funeral service through 8pm and continuing Monday from 2-4pm & 6-8pm.
