

Mel Freedman, age 90, of Wellesley Hills, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2016. He had been married to his beloved wife, Elaine (Cohen), for 57 years. He is the brother of Muriel Goldberg of Peabody and the devoted father of Jill Katz of Sudbury, Alan Freedman of San Francisco, CA and Barry Freedman of Atlanta, GA. He also was the loving grandfather of Brenna, Robert and Jacob Katz and Benjamin and Andrew Freedman. Mel was a graduate of the Northeastern School of Engineering and had been employed as an electronics engineer until his retirement at companies including Datel, Panametrics and GE. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mel was an avid learner, especially enjoyed theatre, travel and spending time with family and friends. He was deeply loved by his family. Among his many special qualities, his compassionate and calm nature, loving presence, and wonderful wit, will be sorely missed.
Funeral services at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., Brookline on Monday, April 25 at 11:00AM. Burial to follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Following the burial, and continuing on Tuesday & Wednesday from 2-5PM and 6:30-9:00PM, the family will receive visitors at Mel’s home. Donations may be made in Mel’s honor to the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Charitable Foundation, 2014 Washington St., Newton, MA 02462, or the charity of your choice.
His family is grateful for the unusually attentive and skillful care he received at the hospital during his final illness.
