Marion J. Helenkamp, 83, passed away in peace on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Marion was born in Missouri to Wilma and Edward Helenkamp. She graduated from the University of Washington, and received her master’s degree from the University of Southern California. Marion was a retired lieutenant in the Los Angeles Police Department and had the honor of being the first black woman lieutenant in the L.A.P.D.
Marion was the devoted mother of Arianne Coleman, who preceded her in death. She was a strong, generous and soft-spoken woman with a great sense of humor who loved to spend time with her daughter. Marion enjoyed traveling, cooking, dining out and dancing. She belonged to the Red Hatter Society and was part of the Ebony Reunion Committee.
Marion will be long remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
