It is with heavy hearts and tremendous sadness that the family announces the passing of Gladys Chiang on May 23, 2020 at the age of 73 years. She was born and raised in Lima, Peru and then immigrated to Vancouver, Canada at the age of 26. She worked at The Hyatt for over 25 years and still enjoyed taking the family on vacations there during her retirement.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Patricia and Cristina, her grandchildren, Jayden and Russell, her husband, Jasper, her sister, Nancy, her brother, Roman, her nieces, Sandra (Andy, Vanessa and Brandon), Katherine, Susan, Jacqueline and Janet, and her nephew, Fernando (Keyshawn and Sebastian). She loved to spend time with her family, laughing and joking around with everyone. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She is also predeceased by her parents, Man Fay and Seen Fong, her sister, Norma (Ernesto) and her uncle, Piu Suk.
Gladys lived a full life enjoying travelling, gardening, knitting, cooking, and just the simple pleasures in life. Some of her fondest memories were her trips to Hawaii, Europe, New York, and The States in general. She also was a young kid at heart with the biggest collection of stuffed animals and was never too old to visit DisneyWorld, even at the age of 70. She was passionate about watching world soccer but her main sport was really “shopping”. She always had a great sense of style. She was also interested in art, music, current events and world history.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Burnaby General Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital and the long term care facilities. Also special thanks to her private care aides and physiotherapist, Gina, Ruth and Jason. Six months ago even when the hospital staff thought she did not have a fighting chance to live or survive, she defied the odds and with her determination, perseverance and faith in God, she showed us that miracles do happen. She taught us to be strong, patient, and to never give up - she was a fighter. She was able to enjoy all the things she wanted, plus more and her last wish came true - to live at home during the last days of her life.
May she rest in peace while she enjoys her eternal life with God and her angels.
