Johnny will rest alongside his wife, Amy Yiu Chee Kan, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his daughter, Joanna Kan; son-in-law, Albert Lum; and twin grandchildren, Tamlyn and Trevor.
Johnny was born in Hong Kong on August 7, 1931 to parents, Kan Pak Kwong and Tsung Yuk Tin. He was graced by his (surviving) older sister, Jane, and younger sister, Yun Chau.
Following 1965, he spent newlywed years with Amy in Hong Kong. Six months after their daughter’s birth, they immigrated to Vancouver where Johnny raised his (Canadian) family in 1968.
When not fulfilling his Civil Engineering career or spending pastimes in the garden with his dog(s), he travelled global destinations with family and friends.
Retirement sought him volunteering for the Seniors group at the Roundhouse Community Centre, expanding his love for writing and settling down at his West Vancouver home.
In 2019, Sunrise of Vancouver Senior Living became his new community.
Whether “John” first engaged in (Sunrise) shopping/restaurant ventures or continued to dine with his family/in-laws when he could, he was known as “Johnny” whom anyone close to him can attest.
His life-long legacy, enriched with family and friends, will always hold a dear place in our hearts.
A funeral service with visitation will be held at the Forest Lawn Chapel on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 10:00 am.
At 11:30am, a committal service will be held at the Garden Mausoleum, followed by a reception - details will be outlined on the day of the service.
In lieu of gifts, please honour him through a memorial donation to the Alzheimer Society of BC using the following link:
