My Sister Lily was the most brilliant person in my life.
Bob, Lily, Maureen, and myself travelled the world together and had a lot of good times.
It was very hard to see her develop Alzheimer's.
During our visits, I would mention our Father's name,
"Yen Hoy." 
 She would brighten up and say "that's my Dad."
After Bob passed, Lily would always ask where Bob was,
every time we visited.
In August, the last time we visited, I was holding her hand.  When I mentioned Bob's name, she squeezed my hand.  Then I knew she was still there.
It is comforting for me to know that Lily is now with Bob.
We will all miss you, 
and we all love you Lily.

Your Mom was such a special woman. She was a hard worker, and superb at business. She was smart, a talented cook, and could hold her own in any company. She had a sweet personality, was so full of adventure, and cared very much for her family.
She was brave.
She was kind.
I believe it would be very lucky to be loved by a woman like that.
I know that she was a special Mom because she successfully brought you up to be just like her.
So, for Lil and for all the wonderful Mom's we knew, rest in peace.
She will always be with you because she is forever in your heart.

Thank you all for being here today to honor our mother, Lily Git Eng Lee. 
 Mom was a strong, beautiful woman with a kind soul.  Courageous, fearless and very very beautiful.  Heads would turn when she entered a room. That's how beautiful she was.
She had style, she had grace and she had class.  A lot of class.
Mom was so talented.  She could do many things and she did them all well.  Too many to list, but here are a few.
Mom sewed me a peach suit for one of my jobs.  It was tailored perfectly, lining and all.  Perfection!  Thank you Mom....
And Dad's favorite cookie was the hermit.  Mom made sure he was never without for too long and our cookie jar always had something very yummy in it! Thank you Mom....
And it may surprise some of you that Mom was a great ping pong player too!
I loved when she would share stories of her youth.  One such memory was when she was in grade school.  Mom would rush back to school after lunch so she could play basketball with the boys.  Never afraid to take on the boys!
Another story she shared was when her dad had the store.  He would bring her contracts to translate and she would give him the okay to sign them.  Perhaps this was the start of her savvy business career.
Always helpful too! When my children Nikki and Cory were newborns,  Mom would come to our home everyday to help bath and feed them.  Mom did this all out of the love she had for her family.  Thank you Mom....
She protected her family.  When Scott and I first met,  Mom sat him down in the living room and grilled him for over an hour. 
I cherish the time spent in Arizona with Mom and Dad.  Her love for her brother Harry was evident and they shared a special bond.  It was so nice to see that for the few years we were all together there.
Mom, I miss you everyday and am so grateful to have had such a wonderful loving mother like you.  I know you are with Dad now, happy and together again.
May you rest in forever peace....

My Mom was an amazing woman!  Excelled in everything she did - cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, was a whiz at numbers.
Christmas dinner for 70?  No problem.  I remember roast beef (prime rib always) dinners on Sundays.  Christmas dinner was not complete without Mom's dressing.   And the tree was perfect in shape and decorations.  Great memories of Christmas.
And so smart...business smarts.  Both Mom and Dad made some incredible business decisions.
Her negotiation skills were so good that a furniture store she brought my bedroom furniture from actually offered her a job.
Legendary shopping skills!  If something was on sale at a certain percentage off, she figured out the sale price instantly.
Always so elegantly dressed and made up.  Hair was always perfect.
I am so lucky to have had her as my Mom and so proud of all her accomplishments.
Love you and miss you Mom.


Lily was my friend.We got on very well. Lily cared for her husband and wanted to know his movements. She loved her children. When she said their names, she would say all of them as well as their husbands. It was like a song. She also said her brother's name Jimmy and his wife Mo alot.I knew their names before I met any of them. Lily was an energetic Mum. When she was well, she wanted to know what was going on.She also loved to chat.We would talk about my Lawrence and our children.She would talk about what she remembered about her parents and that her dad was smart and a hard working man.She was proud of what the family had accomplished.She would always say "I am a Chinese girl".She told me about how she met Bob.She taught me Chinese words and we used it as a pastime.She would be teaching me over and over and we would laugh a lot during these lessons.Counting 1-10, Yat, sim, sam... Potatoes-shijay.  Apple - pingo.You little rascal-go jum towa.She called me this one day when I was asking her to do what she didn't want.Go jum towa! She warned me about bad people out there. She would tell me, if people are following you, stop and look at them so that they know you have seen them. She talked about money, cars, houses and dresses. If someone was leaving the house, she would say to me "watch them!" When she was still able to walk, she would stand at the door. I always thought this was a habit from the shop. In her last days, just before I went away to see my sick father, Bob was the topic. She would ask about him everytime.  She would ask me where he was, and I would tell her "no more Bob" and she would ask me who killed him. Most of the time it was very hard to answer because I could see it affected her.Lily like to chat. even when she was forgetting things she still liked to talk.If she was upset about anything when I arrived, she would calm down.Goodbye Lily.You did a good job, you ran a good race.Now its time for you to rest.Now you can talk to your Bob. Rest in Peace.

Lily was so beautiful, talented and smart and could do anything she put her mind to. Our family still raves about her cooking. We have passed down her stuffing recipe for our turkey dinners but  it is still not as good as hers.
Growing up, she was the beautiful young mother.
When Michael and I decided to marry, we went to Mom with our decision and found out that she had already booked every weekend in May at the Marco Polo. Maybe she was giving us a nudge to finally get on with  it.
As a grandmother, she was second to none. and generous with her time. Our children had only their grandparents as sitters until they were well into school. When they couldn't sit because of travelling, the kids always received many souvenirs from their trips. Special birthday cakes in many shapes that they picked out were baked. She would make their favourite meals, Ask Conor about chicken, rice and gwa. She and  Danielle would bake cookies together. 
While young, Mom helped her father with his business even though she had very little education. She taught herself aspects of business such as financing and leverage, negotiated leases and managed their properties. She and Dad amassed a real estate portfolio, leaving us with a legacy for the future.
Lily was always perfectly made up and well dressed. A friend of mine wanted to be like her with her wardrobe and many travels. Danielle at 4 or 5 lamenting that she forgot her lipstick was something she got from her grandmother, certainly not from me.
The person that I have been describing was taken away from us as her dementia progressed. Gone was the very capable Lily still loving, but more dependent on us and others. Happily we would get glimpses of her feistiness, which would make us smile.
At the end Lily was completely reliant on others for all aspects of her everyday life. I like to think that Mom is now free of that terrible disease, able to think and express herself. That she is now whole and content with Dad.


I truly feel we won the Poh Poh lottery. She was kind, smart, and incredibly generous, both with treats, but also with her time. I have numerous memories with Poh Poh of us either grabbing ice cream after our Saturday lunches or baking cookies together. And boy could she bake! Her shortbread and cheese and chive scones were next level and I still have not tasted any that compare. I remember she had a book of cake recipes. There were ones shaped like Disney characters or animals or others with just elaborate designs. She would ask us to go through it and choose which one we’d like for our birthday and without hesitation, she would agree to create it, no matter how difficult.

And that’s how Poh Poh was in my eyes. She went above and beyond for her family. She was hardworking and up for any challenge life presented her. She was a wonderful role model to have and always told the women in our family to “know their rights”. And that was clear with the life she led. She had to work extra hard to earn a seat at “the table” that was typically dominated by men, but there was nothing that could stand in her way and she was very determined. Poh Poh was truly a powerhouse. And she will be missed.


Lily Lee, such a pretty name! And Lily Lee was my Mom.  I am so proud to say those words..."she was my Mom".  I could talk for days on end about her, what an amazing woman she was, sharing memories, and lessons learned, but that would just be the tip of the iceberg, and I could never, ever do her justice.  I can only strive to be just like my Mom.  I can follow her path, try to walk in her footsteps, but, to achieve greatness like she did, would in my eyes, be impossible.  She is always is my thoughts, oftentimes, throughout my day, I think
What would Mom do? What would Mom say? What would mom wear? She was the epitome of elegance, and a prime example of class!  And she was my Mom.  Words will never describe how much I  miss her, but in my heart, she is with my Dad, and that brings me comfort.  She is where she needs to be, together, with "Her Bob"
