Ginny married Norman Lawson Hickey on May 23, 1959. They were married for 48 years, raising their family in San Diego before Virginia, as a widow, joined her daughter’s family, Chris and Mary Conrad in Michigan in 2013.
Virginia is survived by her four children Donald Hickey, of Middleton, Wisconsin; Jon Hickey (Fran), of San Diego, California; Wayne Hickey of Millington, Tennessee; and Mary Conrad (Chris), of Byron Center, Michigan. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ginny was preceded in death by her loving husband and dedicated parents.
Ginny worked as a sales clerk in the boy’s department, at Mervyn’s Department Store in Clairemont Mesa and at College Grove for over 20 years. She spent all of her spare time caring for her family and supporting the activities of her children. She served in many ways with PTA, Boy Scouts, Little League, Pop Warner football, basketball leagues, choirs, and so much more. Virginia was selflessly devoted to her family and generously gave of herself. She leaves behind many beautiful memories.
A celebration of Virginia’s life will be planned in San Diego, California, as soon as public gatherings are allowed. She will be buried with her husband, Norman, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Autism Tree Project Foundation (www.autismtreeproject.org/donate), San Diego, California.
