Bessie was born in High River, Alberta on September 26, 1933, to parents Jean and Clifford Tucker. She grew up in the Okotoks area, living on various farms. Bessie was married on October 8, 1955, to Douglas Harold Spence. Together they enjoyed dancing, fishing, bowling, downhill and cross-country skiing as well as paint by numbers.
Bessie worked as a Comptometrist until having children. She dedicated the remainder of her working career of 35 years to Telstar Drugs. For many years Bessie was also an Avon representative.
Bessie was an active member of the women’s group at her church, was always a willing volunteer at the children’s schools and activities. Bessie was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives, attending many activities. Bessie loved to bake and had a very sweet tooth.
Bessie is lovingly remembered by her son Clifford (Helga), daughters Marilyn (Doug) and Norma (Scott); much loved grandchildren Hilde, Debra (Wendel), Jennifer (Jamie), Christopher (Maren), Kimberly (Carl), Jeffrey (Dana), Andrew, Stephanie, Kyle (Katie), Brenna (Brinley), Taryn (Jordan), and Ryan. Bessie is also fondly remembered by her great grandchildren; Wendyllynnea, Avelynnea, Augustine, Lucas, Ellie, Grace, Molly, Caleb, Oliver, Rachel, Mary, Zoey, Mikenna, and Wylder. Bessie is survived by her sister Joyce. Bessie was predeceased by her husband Doug and siblings Vallance, Ernest, Judy, and Donald.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, January 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Centre Street Church, 3900 2 St NE, Calgary, Alberta. For those who wishing to attend virtually, the Celebration of Life will be live streamed. The streaming information will follow.
The interment will be at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
