Eric Stephen Vance, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday August 8, 2022 after a long battle with heart disease. He had a close-knit family who supported each other and remained by his side as his health continued to fail.
Eric was born in Quebec in 1942 to John and Dorothy Vance, and was the youngest of their three boys. He and his brothers enjoyed playing in a band and hanging out with family friends at their cottage. After marrying, he moved out west and raised three children of his own. Eric worked in accounting with the municipal government for most of his professional life. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching pro-hockey, camping, fishing, hunting, and being on the water. He especially enjoyed having his daughter row him in a canoe on Glenmore Reservoir while he fished for hours on wonderfully warm Saturday afternoons. His love of life carried him through into retirement.
After moving into an assisted living facility, he made a new social network of friends and packed his schedule with long nature walks, field trips, shopping, and family BBQs. He truly understood how to be happy, despite his health and aliments. Instead of complaining he continued to find things he enjoyed doing with the people he held dear. Watching him define happiness and success on his terms was simply beautiful.
The family wishes to express our appreciation to the Prince of Peace and Peter Lougheed Hospital for helping make his life and transition as peaceful as possible. Eric did not wish for a service, but if friends so desire, memorial donations can be made directly to The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary.
