Mrs. Sio Yee Leung, passed away at the AgeCare Walden Heights Seniors Home, in Calgary, Alberta on Friday, July 13, 2018 at the age of 89 years.
She was born in the town of Liannan, Guangdong province, China on December 13, 1928, and was raised by a single father, Chiu Sheng Law. She travelled to Hong Kong in the late 1940s after WWII to find work and that is where she met her husband Garlo Leung. They were married in 1949 and had four sons. Sio Yee and Garlo later immigrated to Canada in 1973 with three of their sons. She occasionally found parttime work in Canada to help the family and was a hardworking housewife that made sure the boys were well fed, stayed in school, did their homework and stayed out of trouble. She was a self-educated person that loved to read and collected articles for her own understanding of food, medicine and health. She practiced a lifestyle of eating healthy with no processed foods, getting lots of sleep, reading and educating herself to keep her mind sharp.
She is lovingly remembered by her four sons and daughters-in-laws, Julian and Sophie, Kee and Karen, Edmond and Sinphia, and Norman and Catharine; seven grandchildren Hilda, Jimmy, Nathan, Nicole, Kristel, Kaylyn and Joanne; and one great-grandchild, James Star Fretty-Leung. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Allan Leong; a sister-in-law, Jean Leong; nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Priddis Neighbourhood, AgeCare Walden Heights for their dedication, care and compassion. Abiding by Sio Yee’s wishes, a private family service will be held.
