
Angeline Kafkalas, 85, of Camp Hill (known to everyone as Angie) passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family. Outstanding support was provided by Hospice of Central Pennsylvania and Donnel Brown.
She was born August 23, 1925, in Monessen, PA, daughter of the late Constantine and Helen (Stamoolis) Croussouloudis.
Prior to marrying she worked in her father’s bakery, The Keystone Bakery in Monessen, PA. After marriage she moved to the Harrisburg area in 1954, upon her husband’s return from military service in Germany. Since 1954, she lived in Harrisburg, Fort Indiantown Gap and Camp Hill. During her husband’s military career with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, she was active in supportive activities including service activities for veterans. She served as a member of the Camp Hill Women’s Club, volunteered at Holy Spirit Hospital, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. A member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church she taught Sunday School, served as President of the Philoptochos Society, and was an active member of the senior citizens society.
Beloved wife and mother, she is survived by her husband Major General (Ret.) Nicholas P. Kafkalas, of Camp Hill, to whom she was married for more than 61 years. She is also survived by: her daughter, Ellen Ann Kafkalas of Allentown; son, Col (Ret.) Peter N. Kafkalas and wife Michelle of Carlisle; grandchildren Christina Kafkalas of Manayunk, Jennifer (Kafkalas) Meier, husband Scott, and children Reese and Hannah of Carlisle, and Nicholas A. Kafkalas of CT; their mother Marilyn Kafkalas McGunagle of Rockville, MD; sisters Catherine Kanes and family from Gaithersburg, MD, Marie Francis and family of Pittsburgh; brother John Croussouloudis and family from Monessen.
Her family always joked that she “knew everyone.” And she will be missed by her family and everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 19, 2011 in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Yverdon Drive in Camp Hill. Interment will be at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 in The Cathedral.
