Evelyn Taylor Punda, of Hampden Township, died March 25, 2020 at Brookdale Grandon Farms. She was born on August 19, 1926 in Connellsville, PA to the late Milton and Jessie (Harmon) Taylor. She graduated from Connellsville High School in Fayette County. Evelyn was the widow of John Richard Punda of Hampden Township to who she had been married for 46 years.
Over many years, Evelyn was employed by: The Department of Public Assistance, Department of Public Welfare, Cumberland Valley School District, the law firm Goldberg, Evans and Katzman, law firm Cleckner and Fearen, Harrisburg Postal Employees Credit Union, and then law firm Mette, Evans and Woodside, from which she retired as a legal secretary.
Surviving are a daughter, Ronda P. Minnich, wife of Scott Minnich of Cranberry Township, PA, two sons, Douglas Richard Punda of Cabin John MD and Terry A. Punda, husband of B.J. Punda of Camp Hill, PA, four grandchildren and also many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by three sister and an infant brother.
Evelyn was a Charter Member of St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church serving as Sunday School Teacher during its early years, since then helping in various ways and, more recently, being a member of the Altar Guild.
She enjoyed volunteering and was treasurer and past president of the GFWC Hampden Township Civic Club, past treasurer of Cumberland County Federation of Women’s clubs, past president of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Peace Church, was a tutor for the central PA Literacy Council for three years; had helped with Meals on Wheels in Mechanicsburg. She was also a member of NARFE Branch 1816.
For three years, she served as director and officer for AARP Branch 3238. For ten years, she served on precinct 5 of Cumberland County bureau of Elections at Hampden Township. More recently, Evelyn has been a member of the Senior Center in Mechanicsburg participating in various activities including the TLC Entertainers Chorus, which sings at nursing homes and other places when invited to do so.
Over many years, Evelyn enjoyed traveling, bowling, gardening, roller skating, line dancing, board games and card games.
Services will be scheduled at later date; burial was in Rolling Green Memorial Park.
