Born in Banica-Lerin Macedonia on April 5, 1937, son of the late Mice Laevski and of the late Menka (Vaseva) Laevski.
Born in Banica-Lerin Macedonia he was forced out as a refugee with his sister and mother to land in Bitola, Macedonia. They were then moved to Skopje Macedonia where he lived until emigrating to Canada to be reunited with the rest of his family. He worked as a Physician at the Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, The Restigouche Hospital Centre and the Campbellton Regional Hospital. He also had a large family medicine practice. He was a leader in medical education organizing numerous meetings with national expert lecturers.
He was one of the originating fathers of soccer in the Campbellton region coaching and teaching skills that he acquired during his elite junior soccer days in Europe. In Canada he was introduced reluctantly to golf by his sons. After a few “sweet-spot” strikes he became addicted to the sport and played from the melting of the snow until its return in the fall. He became a fixture at the Restigouche Golf and Country Club. Remembered as a gentleman by the members, it became his second home, and the members became his second family. One of his greatest enjoyments was travelling to Cuba to play golf with his third “son/nephew” Philip on an annual basis (he became a fixture at the golf club in Varadero as well).
He was the proudest of grandfathers, involved in all aspects of his granddaughters’ upbringing and development, into beautiful and intelligent adults. He was proud of all their achievements in life.
He is survived by his sons Drs. Hristo (Mary) and Aleksandar (Manon) Laevski of Campbellton, his granddaughters Dr. Kristina (Dr. Jordan), Michelle, Angela, Marika and Katarina of Campbellton, NB, his sisters Vasa and Rina of Toronto, and his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Andronia, brother Konstantin (Kocho), sister Aleksandra, niece Menka (Tambos), nephews Giorgo (Baboulas), Taki (Baboulas), and Michael (Nitsopoulos).
Due to COVID restrictions funeral arrangements will be delayed. He will be buried next to his wife Marika in Toronto, Ontario.
The family would like to thank staff of the Campbellton Regional Hospital for the great care he received.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Restigouche Friends of Healthcare Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Maher’s Funeral Home, Campbellton
