Loving husband for 64 years of Joan (Schaffer) Carlin. Beloved father of Patti (Carlin) Kozol & her husband Dr. Neil Kozol, and Richard Carlin. Devoted grandfather of Dr. Stephanie (Kozol) Berlinski & her husband Chris Berlinski, and Jonathan Kozol. Alan was the son of the late Sarah and George Carlin and brother of the late Benjamin Carlin.
He grew up in Roxbury and graduated from Boston Latin School and received his BS degree from Boston University, where he met his wife Joan. They married and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, so Alan could pursue graduate work in Industrial Psychology at the University of Utah. They later moved East and finally settled in Sharon, MA, where they raised their children.
Alan loved the water and boating, and for many years was a member of the US Power Squadron. He took up snorkeling during his and Joan’s many trips to the Caribbean, and eventually became a certified scuba diver. Alan spent his entire career in the office furniture business, not only selling office furniture, but designing and space planning numerous office spaces in major companies both in Boston and New York, where he was praised for his talent.
Due to Covid-19, funeral services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan’s memory may be made to the Dementia and Alzheimer’s organizations who are working to find a treatment and cure for this dreadful disease.
