Edgar L. (“Eddie”) Northcutt, affectionately known by his family nickname “Bon”, was born on July 20, 1930 to Jack R. and Stella Northcutt in Van Zandt County, Texas and passed away peacefully in Red Oak, Texas on May 28, 2020 less than two months shy of his 90th birthday.
While still too young to enlist, Eddie fudged his year of birth so he could join the military and serve his country during WWII. While in the service, he was stationed in Panama.
After being a single father for a number of years, while attending a square dance Eddie met his future wife, Margaret (“Peggy”) who was a single mother of five children. After a whirlwind romance, Eddie and Peggy married on April 6, 1980 and blended their families. He remained faithfully devoted to Peggy even after her death on September 25, 2017. Eddie was the best Dad and husband anyone could ask for.
Eddie worked for Plastics Manufacturing Company for over 35 years until his first retirement at the age of 62. Soon growing restless in retirement, Peggy and Eddie bought an RV, got hired on with the Army Corps of Engineers and started working as gatekeepers at Corps campgrounds followed by 16 years as gatekeepers at Pier 121 Marina in Lewisville until their second retirement in 2012.
Eddie was preceded in death by his wife Peggy, his infant son Jerry, his grandson Shawn, his parents, and all his siblings.
Eddie is survived by his children: Jack Northcutt, Jacqueline Simmons, Frances Combiths, Robert Simmons (Donna), Carol Page, Patrick Simmons (Keren). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2020.
