Services for Edgar E. (Rip) Rodgers, 92, of Grand Saline, will be held 2 pm Thursday, October 24, 2019, at Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton with Bro. Brent Corn and Keith Sparkman officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
Mr. Rodgers passed away October 18, 2019 at his home. He was born August 23, 1927 in Grand Saline to James Zebedee and Ruth Ola Burran Rodgers.
Rip, as he was nicknamed from an early age, was a born again believer and a member of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church since 1959. He retired from Morton Salt after over 40 years of service. Rip loved farming and camping. He enjoyed tinkering with and building things on his farm. He really enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Rodgers served on the board of the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery for many years and served as the caretaker for over 30 years. He was a historian of Mt. Lebanon Cemetery and the surrounding community.
Mr. Rodgers is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanne Jennings Rodgers; two sons: Eddie and Danny Rodgers and seven brothers and sisters: Melvin, Allen, Morris, and Glen Edward Rodgers, Dorothy Carpenter, Leta Smith, and Elsie Hill.
Rip is survived by his son, Lane Rodgers and wife, Tina, of Grand Saline and their children: Shawn, Whitney, Seth and Rachel Rodgers and her fiance', Corey Walker and their daughter, Everly; daughter, Patti Sparkman and husband, Bobby, of Mineola and their son, Keith Sparkman; son, Tim Rodgers and wife, Karissa, of Grand Saline and their children: Andy Shobe, Bailey, Brendon, Micah, and Madison Rodgers; daughter-in-law, Rita Rodgers of Grand Saline and children: Anissa McGough and her husband, Greg, Kara Skinner and husband, Zach, and their children: Noah and Maysie; and Lauren Rodgers; and daughter- in-law, Jan Rodgers of Grand Saline and children: Ellen Black and husband, Kasey, and their daughter Paisley; and Marcus Rodgers and wife, Rachel, and their children: Brylie, Camden and Kye Rodgers; two sisters: Annie Sides of Arlington and Eunice Coffman of Grand Saline; and by brother-in-law, Myers Jennings and wife, Glenda of Grand Saline.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm Wednesday at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
