Carl was born on March 8, 1934 in Humphrey, Nebraska. After graduating high school, he joined the Marines for three years. Once his Marine service was completed, he attended Georgia Tech and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in June 1963. Upon graduation he went to work for Western Electric (and subsequent companies) until his retirement in 1989. After retirement, he continued to work teaching software classes for local employers in Winston-Salem.
Carl was a long-time faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem where he served as an elder and trustee for many years. He was a wonderful, loving father and grandfather who lead by exemplifying his strong faith in God. He retained his love of tennis through the years and played into his early 80’s. Carl also enjoyed wood-working as a hobby, particularly using his scroll saw.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest John & Anna Bruhmann Schlotzhauer and his wife of 54 years, Bobbie Hayes Schlotzhauer. He is survived by his daughter Rene’ Riley (Scott), his grandchildren Justin and Brian, and sister Ruth Ann Troop.
A service will be held for Carl on May 11, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall with a small reception. The remains of both Carl and Bobbie will be buried at Forsyth Memorial Park following the reception.
