OBITUARY

Dot Mauney

June 28, 1928July 23, 2020

Dorothy Nan Mauney “Dot,” aged 92, passed away early Thursday morning, July 23, 2020, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Dot was born on June 28, 1928, to William and Della Smith. She had three brothers, James Smith, Roy Lee Smith, Franklin Smith, and one sister, Katherine Butner, and was raised in Winston Salem, North Carolina. After graduating from high school, she married Clyde Howard Mauney (Gus) and lived the life of a military wife for over 30 years. After his retirement from the Army, they settled with their family in Cary, North Carolina.

Never has the Lord had a servant who so loved Him. She lived a life of service to her family, friends, church, and those she found in need close to her and far away. In her life, she traveled the world on trips to further the Gospel to Cuba, Haiti, Russia, and China. She also visited Israel and other Middle Eastern countries to further understand and experience Biblical settings. Dot also served as President of the North Carolina Aglow, International, an organization committed to seeing God’s will done on Earth as it is in Heaven, and in that capacity served as a speaker for groups and meetings all over the country. She lived that life of a good and faithful servant.

“. . . but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” Joshua 24:15.

Dot is survived by her three sons, Lee Mauney, with his wife, Wanda, of Cary, North Carolina, Michael Mauney, with his wife, Jana, of Apex, North Carolina, and Ricky Mauney, with his wife, Andrea, of Apex, North Carolina, as well as six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dot is reunited now with her parents, her siblings, and her grandson, Marshall Shawn Mauney, who preceded her to Heaven.

What an amazing Woman of God Dot was! I remember my wife telling me about this prayer group that was going on in the middle of the afternoon. It was all women but my wife wanted me to come and pray with them. I went. It was amazing. They welcomed me with open arms and we did some serious praying. I jokingly called it the"Blue-haired praying Women's Club". I only went a couple of times, but will always remember it. God's business was getting done in her living room every week. She was a fire cracker! You will be missed! Love you always!

Our family were next door neighbors of the Mauney's on Meadow Drive in the '70's. We loved Dot and Gus and especially miss Shawn. What a huge celebration we'll have one day. I know my Mom, Barbara, is so excited to see her now!

Dot was one of my heroes. Her smile and kind words were always uplifting. She was an encourager who I saw bring out the best in people time and time again. I can remember hearing Dot speak to a group of teens almost thirty years ago about love. You would think that there would have been a great communication gap between them, seeing the difference in their ages. They were hanging on her every word as she spoke. She was so authentic and compassionate.
She was a prayer warrior, an awesome Sunday School teacher, and a one of the best examples I have ever met of someone who embodied the love of God. She cared for people and you couldn't help but realize it when you spoke with her. I thank God for the privilege of knowing Dot.

What a prayer warrior! Dot will be missed, but I'm confident that she's praising God at the feet of our Saviour, right alongside Mariamu and Kyoko!

I worked with Dot at Meadowbrook Terrace in Raleigh in the mid 1990’s. She was a wonderful woman and a true Christian. I enjoyed and cherish our time together.

Dot was so hospitable. I have many fond memories of prayer gatherings at her house! The wisdom she shared from her personal experience helped me grow in my prayer life!
I’ll always be grateful!
Look forward to seeing her again someday in the sweet bye and bye!
