Julie Ann Mitzelfeld

July 22, 1952June 12, 2021

Julie (Dunn) Mitzelfeld passed away on June 12th, 2021.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Keith Medlin, and her beloved grandson, Noah. She is also survived by many loving extended family members and friends. Julie was born in Detroit and raised in Birmingham, Michigan. She was a graduate of Groves High School and Eastern Michigan University. She lived in Rochester Hills, Michigan; Naples, Florida; and Cary, North Carolina.

Julie was incredibly creative with a passion for crafting, decorating and music. She filled her homes and gardens with vibrant art, bright colors, and whimsy. She had a lifelong love of cats and pugs, and incorporated them into much of her art and decor. She loved to give her beaded and painted creations to her friends and family, and those pieces are now a treasured part of her memory. She was also a talented musician who played the hammered dulcimer, piano and harp.

Julie was known for her generosity, humor and resilience in the face of decades living with serious, complicated health issues. She was funny and kind. She had a zest for life and learning even in the face of significant challenges. She loved discussing politics and current events and supported numerous charities. Like her father, John, she never met a stranger and could talk to anyone.

She will be missed by many.

Plans for a celebration of Julie's life are still in progress and will be shared at a later date.

Julie was such a positive person and I'm glad we shared a passion for the hammered dulcimer. Our visit to their summer home up North was extraordinary memorable. We were sorry when she moved from Rochester, but knew that her health would improve in Florida. We lost someone with a wonderful spirit, someone who made our lives richer.

Julie was not only a cherished friend for many years, but she had a profound impact on my life. Without my knowledge, Julie recommended me for a job that I really wanted back in the mid-80s. This job not only led to a successful career for me in sales, but introduced me to a woman who became one of my best friends to this day (Julie's best friend since childhood), but also led to my meeting my husband of 33 years.

Julie I will miss your craziness, creativeness, and friendship. You left a huge mark on my life that I will never be able to repay.

My sweet neighbor from many years ago, always beautiful. As little girls our daughters were best friends, so lucky to know her.
Sweet Dreams Julie.
