Ruth Mary Scott McLaughlin, 95, died August 3, 2018. She was born in Dayton, OH on June 17, 1923 to Edna Catherine Slattery Scott and Lawrence Albert Scott. When Ruth was 2 years old, her family moved to Louisville, KY where she was raised.
Ruth graduated from Holy Rosary Academy and attended State University of NY in Purchase, NY. She worked for the Office of Strategic Services (precursor to CIA) during WWII effort.
Ruth was a member of the Filson Club, the Louisville Historical League and Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, Civil War history, playing tennis and reading. She also was a world traveler and lived in Bel Air, TX, Manhasset, NY and Greenwich, CT, before returning to her beloved Louisville, KY. She eventually left Louisville to move to Cary, NC to be near her son and her sons’ families. No matter where she was living, she and her husband, Bill, hosted Kentucky Derby parties for over 50 years.
Beloved spouse, mother and homemaker, her life was dedicated to the happiness of her family and admired role as “Momo” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas McLaughlin (April 27, 2012), just short of their 69th wedding anniversary, and her oldest son, Michael Scott McLaughlin (July 13, 2008).
She is survived by her son, Dr. William Kirk-Patrick McLaughlin and wife, Mary, and their children, Dr. Kelly Ann McLaughlin Fisher (Dr. Michael John Fisher), Maggie Elizabeth McLaughlin, PA-C, and William James McLaughlin; daughter-in-law, Cindy McLaughlin; Michael's children, Jennifer Ann McLaughlin, Michael McLaughlin, Vaughn McLaughlin, Brendan Thomas McLaughlin (Alison), and James Michael McLaughlin; and great grandchildren, Avery Ann Fisher, Graysen Elizabeth Fisher, Nicholas Michael Fisher, and Caroline Alexis McLaughlin.
A mass will be held 10am Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Cherrywood Rd, Louisville, KY 40207. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Rd, Louisville, KY 40205.
