In the early 1970s I worked for Rich hauling hay out of the mountains. He taught me a lot about life, work and trucking. He was a great mentor to me and I am saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to all of his family and friends.

We always thought of Rich as representing everything that is good about Douglas County. Kind, friendly and always a gentleman. You always looked forward to meeting him. Pat and his children were the same. Seeing him with Jan was a special treat.  They obviously enjoyed each other  so much.

Where to begin!?  I first met Mr. Stevens while helping my mom take care of his home.  I quickly learned how kind and gentle he was to everyone he met.  Now,  about 13 years later, I still have never met a man quite like him.  Working for him was a pleasure.  I enjoyed his stories, laughter, contagious smile, big hugs, and positivity.  I will miss our love of turkeys and my Turkey Tuesday pictures.  He always impressed me with his knowledge and I loved sharing what we talked about with my kids.  Jan and Rich would attend my daughter's guitar gigs around town...I think they were her biggest fans!  I love you Mr. Stevens.  I will miss you...my kids will miss you.

We were acquainted with Rich and Pat in the early 50's and later when they lived in the house on the ranch  Dixie's parents (Ray & Wilma Norton)  previously owned. Had great times visiting them and the young girls.
Later, we always looked forward to seeing Rich  at Pegasus breakfasts when we were in town. So sad.



I met Rich and Pat as a child. They were one of our neighbors living 3 miles back.  Rich would pick me up when I walked to the bus stop when he drove to town. This was before Terry started school.

I also remember one Christmas when he gave up his day to dig out all his neighbors after a blizzard with his catapiller.

He will be missed by all friends and family.

Rich was the first person my family met when we moved to Bell Mtn ranch back in 1965 and I'm proud to say we've been friends ever since. Rest in peace old friend. In

I had the privilege of getting to know Rich over the 10 years I waited on him at The B. I can't recall a single day that he didn't come in without a smile.  He was such a kind and beautiful soul. A true gentleman. My condolences to his family.  I will miss him.

The Stevens family had been in my life since birth and a better bunch of people you will never find. I'm so very sorry to hear of Rich's passing. He was one of the kindest people I've ever known. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.  

What a kind man.  We met over 20 years ago when our son lived in Elizabeth.  He shared his love of cowboy gear with us, we were the new kids to collecting.  Hg and I really missed thise visits when our kids moved.  

Rich as stated always had a nice smile when seeing him usually at my work when he would come in for parts at John Deere,  a few years ago he also one Easter morning ran into him at Pegasus. He was there with Don Riser and Rocky, when he saw me and my family waiting for a table he waved me over and gave us his table cuz he said they were leaving...👍♥️ will truly been missed.

I waited on him for years at The B and B... he’s was a kind generous person, and the ultimate gentleman.
Rest easy, my friend.

Some of my earliest memories of Rich are  with his sign business- what a talent he was.  He was always helping my uncle Jim at the ranch hauling cattle to market  or other such things.   Rich was a wonderful man and great friend.
A recent memory was a road trip,to Gunnison with he and Jan and my friend Joan.   He knew most every building and fence post in our travels!  Great memories driving over Slumgullion Pass and through Lake City on the ride home.
He was always with pen in hand drawing a clever cartoon on a napkin or scrap of paper.   Rich and his kind manner and  artistic talent will be missed by many folks who had the pleasure of knowing him.   



My thoughts and prayers for the Stevens family. My mom was Linda Stapelman and my grandparents Gil & Gertie Ulrickson. I have known Rich for as long as I can remember. He was such a delight to serve at the restaurant. He always offered a smile, a kind word and words of wisdom. He will be forever remembered and missed. 

I have known Rich for so many years, he was always stopping by to have coffee and laughs with my parents, Red & Bert Liggett, I woke many mornings to their laughter.   In later years Dave and I bowled with he and Pat with more stories and laughter, and many, many other events and get together.
Then it was Rich and Jan, and still many stories and laughs, always so nice to see them being happy.  Dave said coffee will definitely be different without Rich, but  memories will last forever.  Dave and Rene 

First of all...my thoughts and prayers are with you.  I think Rich knew me my whole life. He was a big part of our family on both the Moore and Ulrickson side. And he was one of the truest cowboys I ever knew.  I moved to Montana 30 years ago but would see him from time to time when I was visiting family. He never forgot who I was and I always appreciated that. 
He will be truely missed even 600 miles away. Forever a stamp in my heart. My mom and dad have both passed away so I know he has some good friends waiting for him when he gets home. 

I have know Rich for 30 years and the Sandell family has know him for a very long time. I was always amazed by his smile and kindness. He never said a cross word about anyone and would help anyone out. My son would love going to his house for visits and they would always share a can of peanuts and talk.  

Bev and John Sandell where a part of the Friday night dinners for many years until there failing health kept them from joining. They had lots of fun together. 

Whenever I would see Rich he would greet me with a big smile and a huge hug, I will really miss those. He really taught me a lot. Rest In Peace. 



I first met Rich 51 years ago when I stayed the night with his daughter Garry.  He was such a gentle man who always had a smile on his face and kindness in his heart.  He was very gracious and I remember how he loved to play his guitar.  

The angles have called you home and although hearts will be empty and sad, the memories will live on forever.

Rich was an amazing man and Grandfather.  He will be missed by many.  We have so many fond memories of him.

Although we only got to know Rich in the last couple of years, he won over our hearts in quick fashion. Rick was kind, generous with his time and talents, and a true gentleman. Rich will always hold a special place in my daughter Ally's heart. They had quite the crush on one another despite the 68 year age difference! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

Rich always greeted me with a smile and a kiss.  He was one of a kind and I will miss seeing him around town.  This is my favorite photo I took when he came to the ranch with John and me.
