Even though his formal name was Elkanah, he always went by Bill.
He was studying to be an Engineer, in Southern California, when the US entered WWII and Dad left to help protect our country. He was stationed in the Philippines and returned home with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Once back home, he went back to school to finish his degree and eventually met MaryLou McKinnis. It wasn’t long till they married and started a family.
Soon they moved to Eastern Colorado, Kansas and eventually Broomfield, Colorado. They spent over 20 years there raising the family and building their lives.
Bill had been working as an engineer for companies working in the Space Industry. He worked on projects including the Mercury and the Apollo. He spent many years working for the Lockheed/Martin company. We really didn’t think he would ever retire but eventually he did. This gave him time to travel, mostly by car across the United States and to see most of the country.
He always loved fishing and hiking and being outdoors. Another great love of his was maintaining his car. We always joked that there wasn’t a part on the car he hadn’t replaced.
He is survived by his children Cindy McFayden, Kent Richardson and Jim Richardson. Four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
