Mrs. Marilyn (Clowes) Carbaugh, 90, of Broomfield, CO, formerly of Centennial, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, March 17, 2019. She was born February 12, 1929 in Denver, CO; a daughter of the late Roy Lorel and Laura Emma Van Horn Clowes.
As a young woman, she worked as a dental assistant. She married Walter T. Carbaugh Jr. at Trinity Methodist Church on May 27, 1950. She was a faithful member of Gallilee Baptist Church and more recently, Arapahoe Baptist Church.
Marilyn's love for Christ, for her husband, for her children, and for her grandchildren was as deep and wide as the sea. Her family members would all claim her as their best buddy, their best friend- she had a singular gift for pouring into the lives of others and making them felt heard and seen. She loved so many things: to dance, to laugh. She enjoyed both round and square dancing with her husband, and best friend, for many years. She deeply enjoyed gardening and the nature around her home, watching for and feeding the birds, of which the cardinal was her favorite. She profoundly loved young children, and one of her abiding joys was to teach Sunday School with them. Her curiosity and love for the world and all its many facets never wavered. Her adventurous spirit inspires us all as we begin a journey without her; may we choose joy, as she always has.
In addition to her husband of more than 68 years, she is survived by a daughter Gloria Carbaugh of Longmont, a son, Tom (Kathy) Carbaugh of Norfolk, VA; two granddaughters, Joy (James) Messimer of Bristol, TN, Alyssa (Aaron) Brickhouse and a grandson, Garrett Carbaugh, both of Norfolk, VA; eight great grandchildren, Ben, Isaiah, Lorelei, David, Josiah, and Elliana Messimer, and Dallas and Cayden Brickhouse. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie (Don) Kramer, two aunts, Edna Marjorie Van Horn and Elsie Jessie Caldwell and an uncle, George Edward Van Horn.
