Mary Groen, loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019 aged 69. Mary was born June 7th, 1949 in Clarksville, Iowa to Donald and Jean Harris. On August 26, 1967, Mary and Wilson were married in Clarksville. They had two children, Marcus and Rebecca - along with a few others to whom she opened her home and heart. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Colorado and practiced Physical Therapy around the greater Denver area.
Mary was at her finest when helping others. A heart that truly wanted the best for everyone in her world and the will to affect that change led to a remarkable life of service to her friends and family.
Mary took her experiences around the world and wove them into the fabric of her life. Whether learning from her time in Singapore to cook the Asian meals she was famous for, or interactions on the Navajo Nation, or learning from friends that hailed from Norway, Colombia, and farther. She was in perpetual motion knitting baby hats, cross-stitching gifts and giving of herself to others.
Although Mary grew up in Iowa, spent time in Singapore, Texas and the Navajo Nation, her heart was always home in Parker and Denver, Colorado.
Mary was preceded in death by her father Donald and sister Shirley (Wayne). She is survived by her mother Jean, her beloved husband Wilson, her two children Marcus (Rebecca) and Rebecca (Brian), her three grandchildren, who she loved to the moon and back, Liliana, Joseph and Clara, her sister Donna (Bob), and many much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Life Celebration Services will be held Friday, March 22, 2018 at the Parker United Methodist Church at 11805 South Pine Drive in Parker, CO at 10:00 a.m. with visitation starting a 9:00 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers are welcome to the Parker United Methodist Church or Clarksville Community United Methodist Church in honor of Mary’s memory.
