Joseph B. Collins

Joseph B. Collins passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of the late Lillian R. Collins. Devoted companion of Eugenie “Nina” Poirrier for 35 years. Loving father of Jacquelyn Molero (Jay), Donald Collins (Faye), Joanna Collins (Dave), Eugene Poirrier (Mary Beth), Sidney Poirrier (Carol) and the late Joseph B. Collins II (Leslie) and the late Raymond Poirrier Jr. (the late Monina). Son of the late Manuel and Valerie Bourg Collins. Proud grandfather of 19 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his brothers and sisters. Joseph was a United States Army Veteran and proudly served in World War II. He was a member of the VFW – Chalmette Post for many years. He loved music and practical jokes but he especially enjoyed spending time with family. Joseph will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 12:30 PM at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA. He will be laid to rest with military honors in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
