Born in Brooklyn, Annie moved as a young girl from Hollis, Queens to Northport, New York. Ann attended The College of William & Mary (Class of 1961) and was a proud member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority keeping in regular touch with her sisters and making annual trips together.
Her husband of 53 years, Alvin Stern predeceased her in 2019 and she is survived by beloved daughters Keelan Bodow (Jonathan); Leslie (Andrew Abramowitz); doting grandchildren Nathan and Molly Abramowitz, Griffin and Spencer Bodow. Loving sister to Lynn Harris (Ross) of Providence, RI, as well as aunt to several nieces and nephews.
An avid reader and writer, Ann worked for over ten years as Managing and Circulation Editor for The Enterprise a local newspaper in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York and volunteered at the Ardsley Public Library in Ardsley, New York, where the family lived for 24 years. Ann and Al then spent 20 years on Cape Cod in Chatham where Ann volunteered at the Eldredge Public Library and was a docent at the Chatham Historical Society’s Atwood House. Always civic-minded, Ann also volunteered for Democratic clubs in Massachusetts and Arizona. She loved nature and animals and enjoyed her memberships at the Mass Audubon Society and the Desert Botanical Garden.
A memorial will be held in the future for Ann. We prefer to have an in-person gathering in the next few months, but will assess the health and safety of doing so in the future.
To honor Ann‘s memory, the family invites you to make a donation in Annie's memory to The American Lung Association (www.lung.org), the American Cancer Society, the Maricopa County Democratic Committee or her local democratic committee (www.ld17dems.org), or to any public library.
