Edward Massanova, Sun Lakes resident of 20 years, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2021 at the age of 76. Edward is survived by his children, Joseph, Jennifer (Lou) and David as well as many nieces and their extended families. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Dolores Santosusso.
Ed was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 8, 1945 to Albert and Florita Massanova. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was Honorably Discharged after his service, which involved participation in the Bay of Pigs. Upon exiting the Navy, he entered the private sector and began a successful career as an information control specialist with United Engineers and Constructors, which later became Raytheon.
He married his high school sweetheart, Jane in Philadelphia. Over the next nine years, they welcomed their children, Joe, Jenny and Dave respectively, and reared their family in South Jersey until they relocated to the Sun Lakes area.
Edward was a devoted father, an avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed local excursions and worldwide travels. Between the U.S. Navy and his personal travels, he visited over 30 countries, but his two favorite places were the Florida Keys and Italy, the home of his ancestors. He enjoyed history, specifically U.S. history and made it a point to visit famous landmarks such as our National Parks, Gettysburg, Valley Forge and the U.S.S. Arizona. He loved his country and he loved his family.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him. Funeral service proceedings will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Phoenix Zoo.
