Jean Marie Ceru

July 30, 1946August 6, 2019

Jean Marie Ceru passed away on Tuesday, August 6th, 2019, at the age of 73 in Chandler, Arizona. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 30, 1946, and lived in the Detroit suburbs until 2003 when she and her husband Joseph retired to Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Helen Forte, also from Michigan.

She was the beloved wife of Joseph Ceru for more than 51 years and loving mother of daughter Cynthia (Mark) Lancaster and son Scott (Andrea) Ceru. Caring grandmother of 5; Ryan and Evan Lancaster and Sophia, Isabella and Gabriella Ceru. She absolutely loved her time as “Grandma Jeanie”.

Jean graduated from the University of Detroit with a BA in Education. She taught grades 3 – 6 and substitute taught as well. Her biggest role, and the one her family was the most grateful for, was Wife-Mother-Grandmother. Jean dedicated her life to her family and was the happiest when she was with them. Jean was generous with her time and talents. She displayed her generosity in many ways; as a talented artist she was very patient as she spent extra time with her grandchildren creating crafts. Every gift she gave had a special touch showing her thoughtfulness. She was a Eucharist minister and visited nursing homes to offer Holy Communion and friendship to those who could not attend services. Jean and her husband Joe took their family on many vacations to destinations such as California, a Disney Cruise, Northern Michigan, and the Caribbean. Jean always wanted to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves.

A memorial service will be held at 11am Tuesday, August 13th, at St. Andrew the Apostle Church (3450 W. Ray Rd, Chandler, AZ) with a Luncheon immediately following at Oakwood Banquet Hall (24218 S. Oakwood Blvd, Sun Lakes).

Jean was the recipient of a kidney donation in 2012. This very generous gift allowed her to enjoy more time with her family, to travel, and to create her artwork and crafts. It was a blessing that we will never forget.

To support others in need of an organ transplant, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Children’s Organ Transplant Association www.Cota.org. COTA helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support.

Remembering all the fun times growing up - spending endless days and nights hanging out with my second family, The Cerus. The memories are plentiful and will always have a special place in my heart.

I remember Jean as a quiet pledge to Alpha Sigma Tau at Detroit. A party was coming up, and I fixed up 6 pledges with my brother and his frat buds. Wondering who would get Jean, how they would decide - who wants the girl with the green and black stripe tights? Well, history was made that night. She and Joe.
I remember her sledding in her very pretty green leather jacket. It matched her tights.
I proudly display her art work. She was so talented!
I also remember her getting out her guitar and singing "Johnny's gone for a soldier". She had a beautiful voice, too. Miss you, Jean!

We will miss our dear sweet friend Jeanie. We had many special times together, and enjoyed watching our kids grow up through the years.
We first met Jeanie when she started dating Joe while college students at the University of Detroit. We have such good memories of such great times.
We’ll miss you Jeanie and our love will always be in our hearts for you, Joey, Cindy, and Scott.
Prayers and love

Thinking of all of you as you prepare for Jeanie’s memorial service tomorrow. I found this quote from a headstone in Ireland. I hope you find it comforting.
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
Remembering Jeanie. ♥️

I remember a while back, Jean was interested in my Santa collection. Shortly after, she gave me a small pencil Santa that she painted and I put out every year. And every year, I think of her gift of artistry and her thoughtfulness. Rest In Peace Jean... I will continue to remember you and what a sweet person you are! ❤️

Dear Joe and Cindy & Mark and Scott & Andrea and Family,
We are keeping all of you in our hearts and prayers. Jeannie has always been such a special cousin and friend. I have personally been blessed by her generosity and craft skill, as well as, her sense of humor. Although we had not had the opportunity to share in these last years she will always hold a special place in our heart. We are thinking of you all and asking God to surround you with his strength and peace now at this difficult time and in the days ahead.

Jean always created a cheerful, active and colorful atmosphere for family and friends alike. She courageously endured her many trials without allowing them to obscure that spirit.
