A life lived to the fullest…
John (92) passed away peacefully in Fountain Hills AZ, on June 4th.
John was born in Seattle, Washington January 4th, 1928 to Berger and Ingeborg Ramberg; and grew up in Ballard, Washington as the youngest of 2 sons. John graduated from Lincoln High school, and was well liked by his peers, being voted Class President and lettering as both as a yell king and for the track team. John was fiercely proud of his older brother Mel’s service in World War II and enrolled in the Naval ROTC program at the University of Washington. Upon graduating in 1950 with a degree in Meteorology, he began a Navy career as an officer serving in the Korean war and later to serve on the Yorktown in the Vietnam War. After his military service he worked proudly as an Account Executive for the Kohler company and Garrett Freight lines.
In 1961 John met the love of his life Dixie Lee, they were married shortly after and together raised four children enjoying 53 wonderful years of marriage. John and Dixie shared a love of music, dance, and travel. In 1968 they danced for passage on a Cruise of the South Pacific for two months. They would talk about this trip as a highlight of their marriage.
John retired in Sun Lakes AZ in 1986. Together he and dixie built and lived in two different homes there. John volunteered at a local elementary school where he tutored math, and mentored the children. John would continue his volunteer work as President of Sun Lakes Kiwanis. John was also a member of the hiking club and it enabled him to enjoy his other passion, photography.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dixie, brother Mel, Son Scott (Marsha), and granddaughter Kimberly. He is survived by son Shane Ramberg, and daughters Heidi Ramberg Anderson (Brad), and Kristen Penk (Dale). John was blessed with 9 granddaughters and 13 great grandchildren.
The family will have a military burial in the fall. Details to be posted later.
