

Janice Mabel Tyler was born November 15, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to Roy and Maye Stauffer. She graduated from High School in Shelby, Ohio in 1947 and from Olivet Nazarene College in 1952, with the B.S. Degree in elementary education. She was honored to be elected to “Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges in 1952.
In June, 1952, she married Donald E. Tyler, also a graduate from Olivet Nazarene College in May, 1952. Together they began pastoring churches in Lodi, MO; Iberia, MO, Rock Island, IL, Ottawa, IL and Monroeville, PA. During this time she taught 1 room schools for 2 years for 25 consecutive years was a substitute teacher. She served twenty years on the District World Missions Council of the Nazarene Church and was active in churches they pastored, especially as Sunday School teacher, missionary president and Vacation Bible School director.
After her husband’s retirement in 1993 they moved to Rockford, IL and he began pulpit supply work, which they enjoyed together.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; a daughter Beverly(John) Anderson of Cary, NC; a son Darrell (Julie) of Charlotte, NC; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, Carol (Bernard) Pritchett of Mobile, AL and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, 11AM at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 6031 Tuckaseegee Rd, Charlotte. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
