Joe Coulter was coach at Independence High School when I was there in the mid 1970s. Title IX had just passed and we had the first ever girls sports teams. I was thrilled and was on the girls tennis and track teams. Coach Coulter was a good, caring, and dedicated to students man. He left a wonderful legacy.

Donna and family,
I was deeply saddened by our loss but know that Coach is fulfilling a much greater role for GOD in heaven. I remember your dad with great fondness and was fortunate to see him several times of the years at the passing of family and friends. He always warm, friendly and when I asked about updates on the family, the smile on his face grew bigger and wider each time. Your dad changed lots of lives, instilled lessons that have carried us though our lives. He was admired and respected by many and loved by all. May the outreaching of friends new and old and the kind words of so many help you deal with this tremendous loss.

It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Coach Joe Coulter. He was a good coach and he taught me a lot about respect and leadership. He gave me the confidence that my size did not matter and I could do great things and I always tried to live up to his expectations. Charlotte, I was proud to be coached by your dad! He had a positive influence on my life. God bless you and your family, you are in my prayers. Kenneth "Duck" Crawford class of 75.

I graduated from Independence High in 1970. I was a cheerleader and a letter girl so we interacted with the guys playing and the coaches. I remember him with great fondness, admiration, and respect. He taught us that winning was great and to be celebrated but losing gracefully and with good sportmanship was equally important. A great lesson for everyone. Lots of loving thoughts for him and prayers for his family. "To Live in the Hearts of Those Who Love Is Not to Die." God Bless Coach.

Coach Coulter was one of the finest men I have ever known. I first met him at McClintock, in 1961, in the 7th grade. He coached me in JV Football. I saw him many times, at Wilson Funeral Services, serving his fellow man...to the end. The last time I saw him was at Coach Gene Frye's funeral. Me and my brother Bobby had so much to talk to him about! There is never enough time! God bless you Coach Coulter!

Coach, I first met you when you coached JV Football at McClintock in 1962, then I re- met you when you were gym teacher and Athletic Director at the newly opened Independence High in 1967. Our paths kept crossing intermittently through the years . The last time I saw you was at SImmons YMCA on Albemarle Rd when you worked there part time 15 or more years ago. You were the same friendly , affable guy you always were...and you remembered your students from way back. Rest in Peace, Coach Coulter.
