Mae Delle Kennedy Johnson

Born January 1, 1928 in Williamsburg County, South Carolina, was the daughter of William W. Kennedy and Margaret Harrington Kennedy.

Mrs. Johnson graduated from Greeleyville High School and attended Winthrop College, graduating in 1949. She taught school in Laurinburg, Southern Pines, and Charlotte City Schools. In December 1957, she married Charles Leon Johnson. They had one daughter, Mary Lynn Johnson Carter of Durham, NC and one son, Charles Leon Johnson, Jr of Clover, SC.

Mrs. Johnson began a second career in teaching at Charlotte Latin School after the loss of her husband in 1970. She retired from Charlotte Latin in 1989.

Mrs. Johnson was an active and dedicated member of Mouzon United Methodist Church since 1958.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Lynn, her son Charles and wife Chu. Surviving grandchildren are Matthew Carter, Rachel and Brandon Johnson. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles in 1970 and her first grandchild Michael Justin Carter in 1997.

Mrs. Johnson would like to express her deepest appreciation for Sharon Towers so in lieu of flowers, she would like memorials to be made to The Sharon Towers Resident Fund.

Visitation will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte followed by a graveside service at 1pm at Sharon Memorial Park.
