Thelma accepted Christ at an early age and joined Savannah A.M.E. Zion Church, Lilesville, NC. Later, Thelma moved to Washington DC. There, she joined Peace Baptist Church where she was a longtime faithful member. Although Thelma lived in Washington, she never forgot her roots. Every summer, she took a week vacation to come back home, to visit with her family and attend Homecoming and Revival Services at Savannah A.M.E. Zion Church.
While living in Washington DC, Thelma worked for many years with the government. Upon retiring from the government, she worked with Peace Baptist Church Daycare, Giant Grocery Store and Save Way Food Mart in Washington DC, before permanently retiring.
After permanently retiring, Thelma decided to move back to North Carolina. She first moved to Charlotte, NC for a couple of years, then she decided to move to Anson County. Upon moving to Anson County, she attended Savannah A.M.E. Zion Church every Sunday until her health began to fail. Thelma truly loved church and loved praising the Lord. Before the pandemic, she was an active participant in the nursing home ministry at Anson Health and Rehabilitation. During this ministry, they had prayer, singing, reading Bible Scriptures and just praising the Lord. Thelma’s favorite words were, “God Will Fix It.”

Thelma leaves to cherish her fond & loving memories: One sister, Betty Waddell Knotts (Fred), of Polkton, NC. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and other family members who loved her and cherished the time that they spent with her.
Special thanks to Anson Health and Rehabilitation Staff of Wadesboro, NC for services rendered to her while she was in their care. Also, thanks to Rev. Margo Gaddy and the Divine Angels of Anson County for providing a monthly ministry to Anson Health & Rehabilitation, where they provided spiritual ministry through singing, praying and uplifting the Lord, which Thelma truly enjoyed.
