Born in Marietta, Ohio, she was the daughter of Dr. Howard C. and Mary Irene Pierpont. She graduated from Radford University with a degree in Elementary Education and Mental Retardation and later received her Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of Virginia. She spent over 15 years teaching in Albemarle County Schools and spent several years as an educator at the Augusta Correctional Center. She was passionate in supporting efforts to address conflict for youth and young adults through her work in bringing Mediation programs in schools, and later Restorative Justice practices in Virginia’s schools, colleges and universities.
Christa founded the Restorative Community Foundation with a focus on addressing juvenile and young adult justice reform measures. She spent tireless hours advocating for restorative justice practices and legal reforms, working with community leaders and public officials at local, state and federal levels and within the court system. She would also earn a certificate in Restorative Justice from Eastern Mennonite University.
Christa enjoyed gardening, reading and music. She had a passion for the history of Francis and Julia Pierpont during the Civil War and Reconstruction in West Virginia and Virginia. Interestingly that led to her connection and foundation board position at Pierpont Community & Technical College in West Virginia.
She will be remembered for her sharp wit and strong relationships with the various communities she was involved in. She spent her youth in Arlington and spent most of her life in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area with time in Madison County and spent her final years in Staunton and Fisherville.
She is remembered with love and admiration by her eldest son David Pierpont, wife Natalie, and granddaughter Jade. Her middle son Benjamin Thomasson, youngest son, Matthew Thomasson and wife Maria, her partner Bud Levin, and his devoted children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life and memorial will be held on July 22nd 2018 at Thomas Jefferson Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church in Charlottesville, VA at 3:00PM.
