Mary Elizabeth Davenport Quist (born April 2, 1965, died February 5, 2018) was an accomplished teacher and tutor who could match the most challenging of courses with her extreme intelligence, wit and organizational skills. Her desire to understand her students before beginning to do formal tutoring allowed her to unlock blocks that kept them from comprehending their subject matter, making her tutoring effective as she built long lasting relationships. Deeply spiritual, Marybeth was known by her encouragement and prayers for all as she shared her faith with strangers and friends alike. She was overjoyed by the simple things in life, and although her physical struggles kept her from traveling far from home, she loved hearing about the adventures of others and had friends throughout the country. Above all, she was an inspiration to everyone she met. Marybeth is survived by parents, Rev. Roy and Elizabeth Quist, siblings, Rev. Michael (Debra) Quist, Rev. Joanna (Norm) Dietz and Mr. Timothy (Mary Beth) Quist, and nieces and nephews, Danielle Bornowski, Andrew Dietz, Joshua Quist, Jacob Dietz, Brady Quist, David Quist, Rachel Wilson, Myra Wilson. Memorial Service will be held at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church 674 Woodlands Rd., Charlottesville, VA. 11:00 am on Friday, February 9, 2018.
