Robert H. Ericson

June 22, 1929October 16, 2020

Robert H. Ericson- Of Harwich, Ma, October 16, 2020 at age 91. Beloved husband of Jacqueline (Remillard) Ericson with whom he shared 69 years of marriage. Bob was predeceased by his parents Emil and Vivian Ericson as well as his two sisters, a brother and son, John Ericson. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline (Jackie) Ericson, their children Robert H. Ericson, Jr., and his wife Julie, Melanie Ericson and her husband Jake Burwell and Kevin Ericson and his wife Katherine. Bob and Jackie were blessed to have 5 grandchildren, Melissa Bohannon, Abigail Dempsey, Kayley, Sarah and Paul Ericson; as well as 1 great grandchild, John Bohannon and many nieces and nephews.

Bob graduated from Auburn High School where he was the senior class president as well as a standout basketball and baseball player; he was elected later to the Auburn High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He then attended and graduated from Clark University in Worcester, Ma. He later received his master's degree in education from Bridgewater State University. After teaching a few years in private schools he accepted a teaching position at Chatham High School where he served as a French and Latin teacher for more than 20 years, followed by 10 years as the guidance director. He also enjoyed coaching Boys basketball and Girls softball at Chatham High. He was instrumental in designing and implementing the Dollars for Scholars program which benefited graduating seniors with college aid.

During their 69 years of marriage, Bob and Jackie enjoyed many trips to the Amish country in Lancaster. Pa. with their family. Bob and Jackie’s greatest joy was attending their children’s many athletic events-soon to be followed by attending their grandchildren’s many games. Later in life they were blessed to experience travel to Alaska, Boca Raton, the Caribbean islands, the Panama Canal and France to name a few.

Bob was a life-long ardent Red Sox and Celtics fan and was lucky to attend many Red Sox games including attending a 2013 World Series Red Sox game with his daughter Melanie. In addition to Bob’s love of athletics, he also loved the English language, he was a voracious reader, piano player, and loved playing cards with his family. Bob was extremely intelligent, had a sharp wit, enjoyed a practical joke or two with his colleagues, however his true passion was his love of family. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the Cape Cod Alzheimer’s Family Support Center (Brewster) and the entire staff at Rosewood Manor (Harwich) for their compassionate care and loving support for Bob and his entire family. Although the funeral services are private the family would welcome any on-line condolences through Nickerson Funeral Home If desired, donations may be made in memory of Robert Ericson to either the John A. To Jackie and her wonderful family my deepest sympathy. I have such wonderful memories of Bob particularly when I had the privilege of working with him when he was Head of Guidance at Chatham High School. Bob was such a wise caring person who gave so much to the Chatham community. I also have wonderful and fun memories of long talks in the summer when Bob was directing traffic at Cape Cod Five. Bob loved his family with all his heart and again I offer our condolences. He will be greatly missed.

To the Ericson family: the entire Roy family wishes to express our deep sorrow for the passing of this great man. He was such a tremendously positive influence in our early years. Through his mentoring and guidance we learned to love and appreciate everything about team sports and especially the game of basketball. We learned a great deal about the game in just a 10 minute pick up game with Coach Ericson at point guard. Thank you for your dedication to your teaching craft and your tireless effort to the youth of Chatham. We are all better citizens for it. " Requiesce in Pace"

So sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I can still hear his voice in French class, and picture him waving as I passed on Main Street in the summer! What a wonderful, friendly, happy person you were blessed to have as a father!

Much love,

I am just one of the many people mr. Ericson helped by just being his kind self. High school was not always easy. He was always helpful and kind. Even helped me when I had a different guidance counselor. Thinking of his family and wishing comfort to you all.
