Charlie Daniel, aged 65, passed away peacefully after a long battle with heart and kidney disease on January 21st, 2020 at NHC Sequatchie in Dunlap, Tennessee. He was born in Young Harris, Georgia on December 6th, 1954 to Rev. William Wayne Daniel and Essie B. Daniel. He travelled and lived in many places, but most recently resided with his wife Marion in Pikeville, Tennessee.
Charlie graduated in 1972 from Douglas County High School in Douglasville, GA. He worked in construction up until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 27th, 1975. He was a decorated Interior Communications Electrician Senior Chief Petty Officer (Submarines), receiving many awards/honors such as several good conduct medals, sea service deployment ribbon, submarine (silver) dolphins, Polaris/Poseidon deterrent patrol pin (with 1 silver star), Navy commendation medal, a Navy achievement medal with 1 gold star, and an Arctic service ribbon, among many others. He retired with an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy on October 31st, 1993 after 18 years of service.
Charlie enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He loved to have a good time, laugh, and listen to music. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer and played softball during his military career. He was a life-long, dedicated, and avid Duke Basketball enthusiast. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his many family and friends. He enjoyed raising and training horses, and was a lover of all animals. He recently reaffirmed his faith as a Christian and joined New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Sequatchie County, Tennessee with his wife, Marion.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years, Marion Daniel. Also left to remember him is his mother, Essie B. Daniel of Covington, GA; son Charlie Daniel, Jr. of Chattanooga, TN; daughter Amanda (Kathy) Brumbelow of Cedar Bluff, AL; son Allyn (Gerina) Daniel of Dunlap, TN; daughter Bethany (Will) Condra of Dunlap, TN; 3 brothers, 3 sisters, 4 brother-in-laws, 4 sister-in-laws, 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private family viewing was held Thursday, January 23rd, 2020. A celebration of life and memorial service with full military honors will be held on January 25th, 2020 at Advantage Funeral and Crematorium in Chattanooga, TN at 4pm Eastern Standard Time with Pastor Jimmy Byrd presiding. No graveside services will be held as Mr. Daniel wished to be cremated.
