Joseph Earl Finkel

Joseph E. “Joe” Finkel, 95, of Napavine, Wash., passed away Oct. 26, 2018, at Providence Centralia Hospital. Joe, the son of Joseph and Kate Finkel, was born on the family farm in Bartholomew, Ind., Aug. 20, 1923. He committed to serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1941 to 1971. Joe’s foreign service spanned World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam era. His duty assignments included England, Japan and Korea. Stateside, Joe and his family resided in at least twelve different states before military retirement at McChord Air Force Base in 1971. In 1978, Joe became the manager of Mayfield Youth Camp in Mossyrock where he touched the lives of many young people. He retired for a second time in 1989, and moved to Napavine with his wife, Barbara where he lived the rest of his days. Joe is preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Barbara Finkel; and a son, Victor Finkel. He is survived by five daughters, Bobby Laybourne, of England, Candy Louis and Jeanne Schouten of Napavine, Janet Owen of Tacoma and Vanessa Finkel of Chehalis; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many extended family members. Joe will be greatly missed by his family, friends and those whose lives he influenced over the years. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Brown Mortuary Service in Chehalis, followed by graveside interment at Napavine Cemetery. A reception in the Fireside Room at Bethel Church in Napavine will follow services. Friends, family, and acquaintances are cordially invited to attend the day’s services.
