Carole -
Wow, 97 years your Mom was a survivor. Of course we mostly know her through stories shared by you. But your Mom seemed to be a very caring person, a trait she passed on to you.

In 97 years there must be many good memories and stories to memorialize her long life. Hope you will always remember the good times and share all that you can with Annie. I know her Grandma was very special to her.

Always too soon to lose your mom but I think she was ready to go. We send our sympathy and prayers for the family.

When I think about Mom, I remember what a good artist she was. She made beautiful papier mâché Halloween masks for us and crocheted stuffed animals.

Mom had an MA in zoology. She took us fossil hunting and showed us how to split oval shaped rocks in half with a pick to reveal the fossils inside. And she taught us to catch butterflies.

More recently, I saw some drawings she did on some colorful Easter eggs – a pig in perspective and a cat with a hat on it. These were very impressive! Mom was an even better artist than we had realized!

For many years, I had a career as a botanical and nature illustrator. I believe the early seeds for this work were planted in me when our family went out into places like forest preserves where mom taught us about butterflies, plants, rocks, and fossils.

Mom worked hard and dedicated her life to us kids and our dad. My deep love, gratitude, and appreciation go with her on her journey. I know she’ll always be with us in spirit.
