John was born in Lafleche, SK on December 20, 1929 to Dr. G.A. (Gus) Kerster and Marjory (Gohn) Kerster.
In 1948, John joined the RCMP and served out of the Chilliwack detachment until 1951, when he met the love of his life, Dolores Puetz. They met on a blind date and were married on August 4, 1951.
After the RCMP, John joined the RCAF Police in 1951 and went overseas to Zweibrucken, Germany. They then went to Metz, France before returning back home in 1956 to Canada, where they settled in Saskatoon, SK, then to St. Jean, QC and finally to Ottawa, ON. They moved out west in 1982 and eventually they retired in the town of Agassiz, BC in 2005, just a few miles from Chilliwack, where they originally met in 1951.
After their return home to Canada, John started his journey to become a teacher after retiring from the RCAF in 1967, and spent many wonderful years molding young minds and making sure they always knew their self-worth.
John will be remembered by his wife Dolores to whom he was married 69 years, children Richard (Cecile), Howard and Kendra (Brent), four grandchildren James, Derek, Donald (Connie) and Richard as well as three great grandchildren, Ophelia, Brent and Fredrik.
He will be sadly missed by his brother Lawson Murdoch Kerster, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. John was predeceased by his brother George Herman Kerster.
He will be remembered always and loved forever.
A Celebration of Life for John will be held in the future.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to Operation Smile.
RIP "King of Gadgets".
