ASHTON Kenneth

Kenneth Ashton, a resident of Chilliwack, passed into the presence of his Lord on June 14, 2012 at the age of 94. Since 1994, he lived in the area and was active in his church, Watson Road Bible Chapel. Ken was born in Lancashire, England in 1917 and moved to Canada with his wife and two children in 1953. Over the years he worked as a sales clerk and as an insurance agent, but his greatest interest was serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Ken directed Bible camps in Howe Sound and the Okanagan. He preached in numerous churches and sat on the board of various Christian ministries. Ken was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn, who went to be with the Lord in 2010 and his great grandson, Ryan in 2004. He is survived by his son, Barry (Alice) Ashton of Abbotsford BC and his daughter Joy (Angel) Bongiorno of Hillsboro, Oregon. His seven grandsons – Colin, Craig and Chris Ashton, Andrew, Mark, Brian and Neil Bongiorno – and 19 great grandchildren remember this wonderful man with great fondness. A burial service will be held on Thursday, June 21 at Vedder View Gardens Cemetery at 9:30 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave, Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Voice of Christ Media Ministries.

Ken was a gracious man with boundless energy who was devoted to his Savior Jesus Christ. For many years he was a great encouragement to me and was a big help as he faithfully and capably served on the board of Voice of Christ Media Ministries. The Lord will personally care for him for all of eternity.

Mrs Bongiorno, when we read of your fathers passing, my sister started singing" One step more my Savior one step more..only one step more" I can hear your father singing that song and praising Jesus. He is in Heaven now singing with your mother. He will be remembered by all those who's lives he touched with his love for his Savior. Renee Hogan Kelly

Pastor Ashton always said to leave a place better than you found it. That he did. "One Step More."

A one of a kind, true gentleman. So blessed that my children knew their great grandpa well, and they have so many wonderful memories of him. I will miss him, but look forward to seeing him in paradise!!!

Grandpa was a great man. I'm honoured to have had him as my grandpa for 13 years, and to have my first son carry his name for a short time. They're together in heaven now! We'll miss you Grandpa Jelly-beans!

I remember him always having a positive thing to say and never giving bad advice. He was what you would expect a grandfather to be. I will miss him greatly.

Joy, you were so blessed to have your father here (on earth) for so long. And to know that it won't be that long until you see him again makes his Homegoing that much sweeter. But you'll never stop missing him.
