Gracie Mae Dow was born on February 16, 1937 in Windsor, Colorado and passed away on May 15, 2020 in Atwater, California at the age of 83 years old. Gracie lived most of her life in Chowchilla, California. She was a house keeper for In Home Support Services. Gracie was also an active member of the Chowchilla Senior Center and the VFW Auxiliary Post 9896. She also attended Cathedral of Faith and Assembly of God in Chowchilla. Gracie is survived by her loving husband Roy I Dow of Atwater, California; children, David L. Ross (Angie) of Madera, California, Rebecca M. Young (Greg) of Indio, California, Karen I Shipman (Eddie) of Chowchilla, California, stepchildren, Robin A. Kelly (Demetrio) of Atwater, California, Rick A. Dow (Karen) of Rome, Georgia, Lisa M. Watland (Andrew) of Atwater, California, Duane Scott (Juanita) of Arizona, Darlene L. Winnie (Willard) of Sacramento, California and Wes D. Scott (Kim) of Fargo, North Dakota. She also leaves behind her brother Jerry Lee Sartin (Louise) of Post Falls, Idaho and sister Karen Sue Rabelos of Standish, California as well as 23 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father William Sartin, mother Opal Pirtle, brothers, Leslie Sartin, Lester Sartin, Jesse Sartin, Alder Sartin, Lawrence Sartin, Billy Sartin, William Sartin, James Sartin, Gilbert Sartin; sisters, Marjorie Page, Annabell Hotchkiss, Baby Girl Sartin; son James Ross and grandson William Kelly. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Palm Memorial Worden Chapel located at 140 South 6th Street, Chowchilla, California 93610. Due to Covid-19, only ten people will be allowed to enter at a time. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2020 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Chowchilla District Cemetery. Due to the Madera County Guidelines for Covid-19, graveside space is limited. As courtesy to the grieving family, we ask that immediate family members be allowed access to the graveside. All other family and friends may remain outside the cemetery gate for the Graveside Service.

Biography

      GRACIE MAE DOW was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, GRACIE will be remembered as a very exceptional person.

       She was the daughter of William and Opal Sartin. GRACIE grew up in Turlock, California.

      GRACIE was raised with Fourteen siblings. She had 8 older brothers, Leslie, Lester, Jesse, Alden, Lawrence, Billy, William, James, 2 older sisters, Marjorie and Annabell, 2 younger brothers, Gilbert, Jerry, 2 younger sisters, Karen, and Baby Sartin. GRACIE was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.

      A typical teenager, GRACIE had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. She graduated from Turlock High School in 1953. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.

      On May 21, 2010 GRACIE exchanged wedding vows with Roy Irvin Dow at Assembly of God in Chowchilla, California. Empathetic and loyal, GRACIE was committed to making her new family happy.

      GRACIE worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. GRACIE was blessed with 4 biological and 6 step-children, 2 sons, David and James, 3 step sons, Rick, Wes and Duane, and 2 daughters, Rebecca and Karen, 3 step daughters, Lisa, Robin and Darlene.

      Fortunately, GRACIE enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, GRACIE worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was housekeeping for In Home Support Services. GRACIE always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.

      GRACIE enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, gardening, RVing, line dancing, and bingo. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.

      Throughout her life, GRACIE was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout her later years, GRACIE was an active member of the Chowchilla Senior Center, VFW Auxiliary post 9896.

      GRACIE’s faith was important to her. She was a member Cathedral of Faith and Assembly of God both in Chowchilla.

      GRACIE enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included a trip to Oregon, a couple trips to visit her little sister Karen-Sue in Standish California and other trips to see family in southern California.

      GRACIE was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. They were best friends for Puppy1she had for 8 years, Puppy 2 she had for 2 years and counting.

       In retirement, she found new pleasure in going to the senior center monthly pot lucks, and playing games, shopping, Holiday get togethers, spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Even in retirement, GRACIE continued to stay in touch with her old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances.

      GRACIE passed away on May 15, 2020 at her home in Atwater, California. Gracie fought a brave battle against Alzheimer's. She is survived by her husband Roy and all their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, brother Jerry and sister Karen. Services were held at Chowchilla District Cemetary. GRACIE was laid to rest in Chowchilla District Cemetary.

      Simply stated, GRACIE was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. GRACIE leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember GRACIE MAE DOW.
