Biography

Elizabeth Magyawi Alipusan, fondly known as Ellen, was born on November 22, 1955 in Wawa, Rosario, Cavite, Philippines. She was loved and a close friend to many. To family and friends who knew her best, Ellen will be remembered as a very exceptional, caring, sweet, loving, giving, and precious person.

She was the daughter of Maximino and Mercedes Magyawi. She was the youngest of nine siblings starting with Poe, Socorro, Leonard, Felicito, Bayani, Angelo, Corazon, and Alfredo. Ellen was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings and shared many life experiences over the years.

She graduated from Rosario Institute in 1971. She was curious about the world around her and was often eager to explore it. Ellen was active in her community and loved spending time with her church, loved ones, and close friends.

On August 28, 1976, Ellen exchanged wedding vows with Henry Cabasis Alipusan at St. Charles Catholic Church, San Diego, California. Ellen was a wonderful and patient mother to her three children Yllenry, Henry Jr, and Chrizelle. She was an exceptional and fun "mama" to her six grandchildren, Chrysten, Tre, Kylie, Rhynel, Mia, and Sophie. She will always be remembered playing with her kids and grandkids the games of tag and hide and seek, art activities, make up, card games, singing her own version of nursery songs of which we dearly loved, and teaching how to spell words and math tables.

Showing a strong work ethic, Ellen worked diligently and did her best to succeed in a variety of careers such as Flo-nor, Van Camp Seafood, and Harland Industries. She was employed for ten years. Ellen always did what was necessary in order to get the job done, was a team player, and developed close relationships with her peers.

When Ellen retired in 1999, she found pleasure in staying active in church and spending quality time with her loved ones. She would keep close contact with family and friends either in person or face timed via social media. At the end of the call she was known to say "I love you and mwuah mwuah!" Ellen always lit up a room with her laughter and kindness. She always took the time to check in on everyone close to her. Ellen genuinely cared for their well being, and selflessly assisted anyone in need without being asked.

Ellen's faith was deeply important to her and brought her great comfort. She was an active parishioner of St. Charlies Catholic Church for 45 years. She was a member of the Salinas Association of San Diego, CA and an auxiliary member of Legion of Mary.

Ellen fought a brave battle against cancer and passed on to be with our Lord in heaven on October 9, 2021 at Kaiser San Diego Medical Center. She was survived by her children Yllenry, Henry Jr, and Chrizelle; her grandchildren Chrysten, Tre, Kylie, Rhynel, Mia, and Sophie; her siblings Poe, Socorro, Angelo, Corazon, and Alfredo. On October 22, 2021, Ellen's services will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church and she will be laid to rest at Glen Abbey in Bonita, California.

Simply stated, Ellen was a genuinely good and kind hearted person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a loving, caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Ellen leaves behind her a legacy of life-long and cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember our dear loving mama, Ellen Magyawi Alipusan.
