Anthony Ikie Hersi
May 7, 1941 – June 8, 2018
Anthony “Tony” Ikie Hersi, was born in Harlem, NY to the late Shirley Hersi and Conrad Francis. His parents predeceased him at an early age in his life therefore allowing him and his two siblings to be raised by their grandmother, the late Louise Hersi of the Bronx, NY.
After graduating from High School in 1959, Tony joined the US Army where he served two tours of duty and during his time of service, he received various honors, lived in Germany and served in Vietnam. After leaving the military, Tony worked as a Custodian for many years and volunteered at the Veterans Center in Queens, NY. Tony loved music, he loved to dance, watch sports, old Western movies and most recently, he loved lollipops.
In 1965, Tony met the late Sheila W. Young and from this union they had Anthony Young of Zebulon, NC, Wyona R. Goodwin, of Clayton, NC, and Shirley Slade of Raleigh, NC.
At the age of 50, Tony suffered a server stroke and had to discontinue working while his daughter Wyona became is Caregiver. Three years ago Tony’s kidneys became internally injured and he had to be placed on dialysis up until his passing.
He is survived by his three adult children (mentioned above), two stepchildren Stephanie Darden, Durham, NC , Nefertiti Williams-Martin, Charlotte, NC, his granddaughter’s Dominique Crosby (Corey), Lakeia Rogers (Kurtis), Eboney Roberson, and Carlisha Slade, his grandson’s Louis R.L. Pena, and Raliek J. Goodwin, all of Raleigh, NC and his eight great-grandchildren.
