Herman Payson Esancy, 87, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Johnston Health in Clayton. Herman was born in Union, ME to the late Burleigh and Gertrude Wentworth Esancy on March 16, 1932. After graduating from Union High School in 1949 he immediately enlisted in the US Air Force. He married Mary Joyce Barwick on April 10, 1954 in Biloxi, MS. He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, including a one year tour in Southeast Asia, retiring from the Air Force in 1971. He was also a retired Deputy Sheriff with Robeson County.
He is survived by his sons, Braxton Esancy and wife, Karen of Lithia Springs, GA, Bruce Esancy and wife, Gayle of Liberty, SC; a daughter, Patricia Jordan of Garner; brothers, Arnold Esancy of Union, ME and Lloyd Esancy of Warwick, RI; sister, Winola Sinclair of Natick, MA; grandchildren, Wesley Jordan, Jennifer Keith, BJ Esancy and wife, Christine, Mark Esancy and wife, Cory, Bethany Holliday and husband, Randal and Nick Esancy; great-grandchildren, Madison Holliday, Caleb Holliday, Jayden Holliday, Jacob Esancy, Blane Keith, River Esancy and Brooks Esancy. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Smith and a son-in-law, Worth (Red) Jordan; brothers, Bernard Esancy and Leon Esancy; sisters, Mabel Alley, Thelma Lonn, Arlene Layr and Agnes Worthley.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 2:00pm at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Clayton.
