Russell Lee Mencer
May 2, 1931 – January 17, 2021
Pastor Russell Lee Mencer, 89, of Woodland, went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2021 on his mother’s birthday, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Mr. Mencer was born May 2, 1931 in Clearfield, the son of Elizabeth Mencer Creech.
He was a graduate of Clearfield Area High School, class of 1949.
After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for one year. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served for six years as a SFC and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was on the Far East Skiing Team while in Japan. Russell was also a recruiting officer in Clearfield and Jefferson Counties.
Mr. Mencer was the founder of the Wesleyan Faith Holiness Church of Bigler where he served as Pastor until his retirement in 2013. He loved his Lord and his church family.
Russell is survived by his two children; Karen Evans and her husband Rex of Clearfield and David Mencer and his wife Karen of Woodland, four granddaughters; Stephanie and Jennifer Mencer of Woodland, Margaret Stigall and her husband Jeb of Delmar, MD and Miriam Seward and her husband Ben of Jordan, AR, five great grandsons; Austin, Evan, Caleb and Isaac Stigall and Benson Seward, five great granddaughters; Regan Elizabeth Mencer, Emma, Elianna and Joanna Stigall and Keanna Seward and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was the last member of his generation having been preceded in death by his mother on July 19, 2006 and his wife, Frances Jean (Kirkpatrick) Mencer whom he married April 24, 1954 at Bellwood, having celebrated 63 years together and who passed away July 8, 2017.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield from 5:00 to 7:00 PM followed by private funeral services with his son-in-law, Pastor Rex Evans officiating. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Clearfield Honor Guard.
Interment will be in Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.
